Work this week has made me reflect on the importance of having a good team behind you. We spend a lot of the time in Godtear focused on the champions, but as half of our activations are taken with their followers it pays to spare them some attention.
This week I want to talk about the common ways we can use our follower units in the game. These work with most units in Godtear, although different units are better suited to different roles.
It's worth noting that a unit can be in multiple positions at the same time, and easily switch between them during an activation. The purpose here is to recognise the different stances we can take with our follower and hopefully use the right ones at the right time.
Common follower positions;
Screen
Followers stand in hexes to block movement and/or attacks. This wall of followers is useful protect a champion/and or banner. Remember that sometimes we may need to make our screen two followers thick, or leave an empty 'moat' hex to totally prevent the enemy getting through.
Backstop
The reverse of the screen. Followers stand behind a champion to limit where they can be pushed back to by a knockdown, or other movement effect.
This is especially useful to low dodge champions or those prone to being knocked down, for example Mournblade.

Mournblade's followers backstop him, preventing Lorsann from knocking him out of range of the objective hexes. |
Combat Reserve
Combat effective followers stand in position close to their champion ready to counter attack if the enemy moves into range. Acting as soft area denial and boosting a champion's combat potential.
Hunting Pack
Combat effective followers operate away from their champion to hunt down enemy models. Acting as an extra threat vector, and therefore able to take some pressure off your champions. This trades off being unable to recruit replacements as they take damage.

Elven Advance
Named for a teammate’s joke that 'advance' must mean something else in elvish, as my elves are always advancing away from his maelstroms as fast of possible. In this position followers move to safety; avoiding giving up steps on the battle ladder, or to simply not be in the way of our own champions.
I hope this helps you get a bit more mileage out of your Godtear units. What do you use your followers for? Let me know on Twitter or wherever you found this post. Stay safe and keep claiming.
